thanx again don
yes
i know canon doesn't refurbish board
that's what i said in my post

yes
the failure rate is high enough so that i've already been told by 6 different people about their own problem
in the 3 days since i 1st learned how it affected me

yes i am well aware that i am outside the window i had to complain
therefore this post
unfortunately
as i stated in the 1st line of this thread
it took me 2 months to figure out exactly what the problem is

yes
i am well aware that i am stuck
thank u for reminding me

i thought the same about the repair shop
so i did some investigating
they actually lowballed it
it was canon that quoted me the >$600 board price

thanx again for the booting suggestion

Hi, i'm new to the forum and am I right in thinking that if I use the XL1 for recording, remove the tape and playback in my other dv handicam all the footage shot would not differ in quality?
This would help head wear?
Any advice greatly welcomed!

yes, you're correct - using another deck/camera for transferring to a computer will not effect image quality and is encouraged to reduce wearing out heads on your main camera.

thanks for that!
Just secured a JVC Mini Dv as new off ebay for a steal!
Anything to prolong head wear then!
Any more tips as a newbie XL1 owner?
thanks
steve
