The wide-angle adapter that you listed does not replace the Canon lens, it just threads on like a filter.

I am not familiar with this specific adapter.

Many Canon XL1 and Xl1s users use Century adapters.

It is my understanding that the best (and most expensive) choice for wide angle is to get the Canon 3x wide angle lens.

Note: In my opinion, this adapter will not assist you with the 16x9 issues that you described in your posts.
