HDMI V1 captures - better to use 3-2 pulldown?
This question is directed to David Newman or anyone with insight into this. I'll try to explain my question as well as possible:
When capturing the upscaled 1920 HDMI output from the V1 using HDLink and Intensity Pro, is there any advantage/disadvantage to using 3-2 pulldown on that output, as opposed to just capturing it as straight 60i? You stated in an earlier post that 24p had the advantage of occupying 20-25% less space, and had the widest compatibility, but would there be any other differences for HDMI captures? Doing captures to a tiny, custom unit consumes CPU cycles and sometimes producing less heat might be desirable for us. I would think pulldown consumes more CPU cycles, so am trying to weigh any advantages/disadvantages. (Other than saving ourselves the step of doing pulldown later for a 24p workflow) |
Pulldown actually saves cpu cycles, as there are 20% fewer frames to encode. Also progressive encoding is slightly higher quality then interlace encoding. It is win-win.
