Beta testing a new Prospect HD/2K & 4K build

Only for existing users who want to experiment with an upcoming version. While there are several small changes, the change we need testing on is an enhancement to the Premiere Pro CineForm AVI exporter. First we need to confirm it works well, but the changes are designed to improve exports of large complex projects and for upcoming 4K projects. Please only test if you have 2GB or more RAM (recommended anyway for large projects.)

Maybe this will fix the TMPGEnc prob we're having... :)

David Newman February 26th, 2008 07:17 PM

Haven't looked into TMPGEnc problem, yet. This beta we are not in a rush to release, waiting on more feedback.

David Newman February 29th, 2008 06:26 PM

More beta builds, this time will a lot more updates.

* Several Enhancement for those using Sony XDCAM-EX camera.
* Quality updates
* Some new metadata features
* Three new utilities with CineForm tools: CFRepair, new versions of DPX2CF and CF2DPX.

The DPX conversion tools, now preserve all source DPX metadata. Nice if you want to save space for a DPX archive, compress to CineForm 444, yet if need to return to DPX all you metadata if now save with the picture information.

CFRepair is a AVI reconstruction tool for any AVI that die during live capture (lost power or run out of disk space.) For live capture those AVI as the master, so in the extreme rare case something bad happens, this tool should be able to recover all your video and audio up to the end of the file.

thanks David,

Where are the new versions of DPX2CF and CF2DPX ?
Are they embedded in the Prospect (or Neo) files ?

David Newman February 29th, 2008 08:58 PM

Yes, they are embedded in Program Files/CineForm/Tools. There are short-cuts in the StartMenu->CineForm->Tools folder to these new versions.

Bob Hart February 29th, 2008 10:41 PM

David.

Curiosity question of low priority. Comment only if you are not under the hammer to get other things done.

The XDCAM EX. - Does Prospect have the ability to directly convert and save to an internal drive, the files off the camera or a card reader or would the files have to copied to the computer first for reason of possible corruption of the original files?

David Newman February 29th, 2008 11:06 PM

You can convert with the file still on the card, via card readwe, or mounted from the camera, the are no corruption issues. In HDLink just check "Use Capture Location for converted files.", now you can directly convert from camera to any local disk.

David, I have downloaded AspectHDv525b108-080229.zip twice but the file seems damaged, it won't unpack.

David Newman March 1st, 2008 05:48 PM

The Aspect HD download was a renames .exe, not .zip. Change the name to .exe and that download would work. I've uploaded a fixed archive for Aspect HD so it is a real zip file (old link if fine.)

While must of the new features are in the highend tools, here is the beta for NEO HDV : http://www.cineform.com/downloads/NE...157-080229.zip

Michael Stewart March 1st, 2008 07:27 PM

Hey David, anyway of getting a trial of Prospect to test the large converts?

Mike

David Newman March 1st, 2008 07:51 PM

Beta, trails and full versions are all the same. If you don't have license it will work for 15-days, decoders are unlimited. Simply download the version you want to try. Remember these are betas, and may have bugs we don't know about.

Michael Stewart March 1st, 2008 11:04 PM

David, just converted a 3 GB MP4 file will try an 8 GB mxf file next.

Mike

Michael Stewart March 2nd, 2008 12:21 AM

Update..... large mxf files do not convert properly, do you need me to send you one?

Mike

David Newman March 2nd, 2008 01:04 AM

That would be cool. We had been focusing on MP4 files, so that is no surprise MXF might still be an issue over 2-4GB.

@David Newman,

Could you point me to some place on your website that explains how to do an installation of an upgrade build, when you already have a previous (non-demo) build? I'm assuming that you deactivate the existing build, uninstall the existing build, install the new build and then go through the activation process. I'm contemplating evaluating the beta of HDV, but I want to make sure that I can get back to build 154, without creating a mess.

NEVER do a deactivate, unless you intend to MOVE your license. Just uninstall, 10-15 seconds, and reinstall the new version, 60-90 seconds.

Michael Stewart March 2nd, 2008 08:30 PM

David the easiest way is to download the Sony software and take the file I gave you and import it into the clip browser software, then you can export as an MXF file to test it. On the PC, open the clip browser software, just click on the lower window and import file, the rest is self explanatory for importing, export is the same by right clicking. The large mxf files being converted is more important than the large MP4 because clips that span across the S&S cards will need to be joined to mxf first, or else it will have to be pieced together on the timeline.

I assume that you meant "uninstall, 10-15 second..".

Thanks, I'm glad that it isn't that complicated. I guess that I'm just used to updating nVidia video drivers. ;-)

David Newman March 3rd, 2008 12:08 PM

Yes it is very simple.

Jay Bloomfield March 3rd, 2008 05:58 PM

Umm, when I tried to uninstall, I got a message that, "AU_.exe had stopped working", but then Vista ran the uninstaller over for me in Win XP SP2 compatibility mode and it uninstalled. Build 157 of HDLink is much more stable in capturing under Vista x64 Ultimate with my Canon HV20. I did see a "new" error (at least, new to me) when I first ran HDLink and that was the dreaded DEP error. I disabled DEP for HDLink and the error hasn't shown up again.
