Working with EX-1 and Prospect

Two issues here - question about adequate/appropriate transcode settings, and question about screen fuzzy.

First, whoa! I just started transcoding EX-1 files with Prospect, and a 21 1/2 minute clip ends up as a 43 G file (!) when using the "Film" transcode setting. So, I tried the next less intensive setting, and that resulted in a 24 G file - so with a hard drive used for everything but operating programs, I will still probaby have room for transcoding about four hours of raw shoots - I assume that for most of us producing both DVD-R and BD-R, the setting just below "Film" will be sufficient? What do the rest of you working with this find?

Secondly, when I put full 1080 30p clips on the timeline in Premiere CS3 (3.2) on a PC, the picture is, of course, sharp as a tack. But the second I hit "Play", everything becomes incredibly fuzzy (not smeared, but fuzzy). I'm editing on an "old" Boxx - two dual 3.0G Xeons, 4 g Ram (3G switch enabled), NVidia Quadro FX 1500, viewed on two 24" Dell LCD hi def monitors. Until recently I was editing on the same equipment (with Aspect) - from FX-1, HDV, 1080 30p (converted from interlaced by Aspect) and I just don't recall ever seeing anything like this - do any of you with experience have any suggestions as to the possible cause as well as a possible solution?

1) Film mode is designed for uncompressed sources, it is overkill for anything compressed. It still seems like you have some very details or noisy sources (gain up?), as Filmscan1 would normal produce less then that amount of data. High is find

2) The playback settings control "display preview mode" sets whether playback will be at 1920x1080 or 960x540 for preview.
