CineForm Bought By GoPro
Wow, didn't see that one coming. Good luck guys, can't wait to see what you do in the future.

re: CineForm Bought By GoPro
Wow - neither did I. Okay Gopro - I am sure you realise how HUGE this is - uuuuuuuuuh of course you do. If you want to make a killing - and I know you love to make miniature sized cameras - make a large sensor camera that records to cineform RAW and watch how the world will go crazy over it..............just a suggestion. One can dream.....

Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro
Congrats to the CineForm crew, sure seems like a big step!

Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro
That's nice but if we lose David Newman because he would rather spend his time on some island drinking an adult beverage with fruit in it as opposed to answering questions here, I'm gonna be ticked.

Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro
Congratulations to CineForm and GoPro teams - thats a huge day for all of them.
Looking forward to future cooperation! Cheers, Axel |

Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro
Lets hope for that.. Maybe even a 3D camera with Cineform RAW.
|
Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro
Well I'm glad you never released the info yesterday as I wouldn't have believed it.
Any chance of discounts on GoPro stuff if you are a Cineform user?? :-) |
Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro
GoPro got a good deal! Cineform got a good deal!
May this marriage produce many powerful offspring and continue to empower video producers the world over. We'll be anxious to see just where this all takes us. GoPro+Cineform is most certainly rattling some big cages now... |

Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro
Congratulations to Cineform! Looks like I'll definitely be adding to my current inventory of GoPro camera/accessories in the near future.

Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro
Good april 1st joke or reality? Strange acquisition.
|
Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro
Not April 1st joke, Reality! It is not strange once you see what the two of us are going to create together.

Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro
With Cineform's expertise in 3D and Gopro being able to make 3D cheap discrete and very portable - this looks like a match made in heaven David. I can see where you guys are going with this. I guess the chances of seeing Cineform licensed in other hardware products now diminishes to almost zero.
Good luck and happy for you guys |

" I guess the chances of seeing Cineform licensed in other hardware products now diminishes to almost zero."
Not at all. GoPro open to making the codec used by far more than ever before. |
Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro
It seems like a match made in heaven.
Maybe you can talk them into releasing the 3d case with the cameras sbs as opposed to one camera upside down. |
Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro
There is an excellent reason for flipping that camera for the closer inter-axial. GoPro subjects can get very close to the lens, for that type of 3D image to work the IA needs to be short.

Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro
Yeah, I know why they did it....not everyone wants to film themselves jumping off a cliff with the cameras pointing at their head. I'd just like them to release the prototype (as well) that had an interocular of 61mm versus 32mm on the one that is released.
|
Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro
What you gain in decreased inter-axial you probably lose in shutters rolling in the opposite direction. these are CMOS sensors right?
|
Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro
Let's continue the flipped camera question here:

Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro
This is fantastic news, David. Congrats on an excellent decision. I'm super excited to see what's going to happen in the next 18 months.
This has to mean a hardware encoder is in the works. This is going to be huge! Cineform RAW cameras and HDMI/HDSDI recorders... Can't wait to talk your ear off at NAB! Thanks! |
Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro
If a camera is to be the R&D outcome of the connubial delights engaged in by the two entities, it is likely to be one wild child.
Whatever form it takes - anyone's guess. Fullframe 2K sensor POV camera? POV 3D camera pod? 3D recorder guts for P+S SI2K camera recorder body????? West Aussies Rule. |
Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro
David, congrats to you and the Cineform crew!
i was pleasantly surprised when i opened today's North County Times and saw the huge article on the front page of the Business section. Good stuff! |
Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro
Whilst I was surprised at first by the merging of two seemingly completely unrelated companies, I'm starting to see how it all makes sense now.
This is great for me because I'm a huge fan of GoPro products - my business is in the action sports industry so they're invaluable tools to us. And I also happen to be a huge fan of CineForm - it's a core piece of my post workflow and it's made the whole editing process so much more efficient for me. I really can't wait to see what comes out of this (although I'm not a fan of 3D at all) - a new GoPro using CineForm Intermediate compression? HDMI / HD-SDI recording device direct to CineForm (that would be a godsend - I've been waiting for that for so long)? Who knows? |
Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro
Just saw the interview on FreshDV - NOW its all making a bit more sense. Dont think I've ever seen a bigger ear to ear grin on anyone that late in an NAB show...must be a GoPro thing ;-)
Cant wait to see the new pricing and more importantly, the new products (Cineform recorder) which surely must be coming in the not too distant future. Exciting times. |
