Media player that plays cineform smoothly?

So far on my system (P4 3.06 with 2 gig ram) I have found that only one media player plays back m2t files smoothly. That media player is Nero Showtime. If you set the deinterlace method to "bob", the playback is smooth and the picture is just stunning. No other media player even comes close.

Now what I'm looking for is some way to play Cineform files back smoothly. I can work with them fine at reduced resolution from Vegas, and I love the way they smartrender so quickly, but so far I have no way to play back my creations smoothly at hi resolution other than a time-consuming render back to M2T format.

Unfortunately a 3.06 P4 has the slower 533MHz memory bus that maybe causing your CineForm full res playback to be limited. We do allow accelerated playback through media player use this simple tool available here http://www.cineform.com/downloads/PlaybackControls.zip. Unzip and double click on the AccleratedPlay.reg file (restart to shipped configuration by double click on FullQualityPlay.reg.) This is a completely harmless tool as it only effects CineForm AVI playback through windows players.

The accelerated play registry modification really helps but the audio is still falling behind slightly. I don't mind the reduction in quality in order to be able to preview these files smoothly. Can I change the performance/quality ratio even further? I've been playing with the numbers in the registry mod, but don't understand them. A tiny bit more compromise and I'd be set I believe.

Sorry that is all we offer for MediaPlayer. Although your PC should be fine in that mode (is you CPU pegged?)

Well I've been messing with it a little more. A combination of accelerated playback and playing back the video from Media Player Classic works quite well. With the accerated playback option, the displayed size is cut in half, but that is fine. At least I can see what I'm working on smoothly.

I was just about to advise getting Media Player Classic, as I've found over the past 16-18 months that Windoze Media Player just can't "cut the mustard" with HD/HDV. Sort of ironic given Microsoft's attempts to be seen as the leading provider of HD software distribution solutions!!

If you haven't gone and got VLC, you should do so as well. It's free, and has lots of other features that make it "a must" - like live preview of what your camera is 'seeing' - great on a laptop; and direct to disk capture of the m2t stream if you do want to record via a laptop. Oh, and it's a damned fine HD/HDV media player!!
