Print to Tape

Any ideas on when PP2 users will be able to print to tape? It's starting to get old. I looked online and didn't find it in any of the upgrades yet for Aspect.

David Newman October 11th, 2006 12:36 PM

We are working with a new licensing partner, so we do expect some action on this, whereas up until now our hands where tied.

Jerry Porter October 11th, 2006 12:48 PM

Thanks David you guys are always great and have great products as well just getting impatient.

Steven Gotz October 11th, 2006 01:14 PM

Jerry,

You do know that there are workarounds like having the HDV folder from Premiere Pro 1.5.1 on your system, right? Until they get it all worked out?

Back to Tape

How are we coming along with another mpeg2 codec? The biggest problem I have using Cineform is that there appears to be no way of getting back to tape from Premiere Pro 2.0 once I capture in cineform intermediate form. I do not have premiere pro 1.5.

David Newman January 15th, 2007 04:39 PM

You can use Premiere native modes to export to tape by importing an exported AVI or full Aspect project into a Premiere native mode. Fortunatelty these steps will be made unnecessary shortly (I not going to say how soon, but soon.)

Thanks David

David, will this upgrade also fix the problem with exporting JVC 720p24 projects to M2T in Premiere 1.5.1?

Dave Campbell January 21st, 2007 04:41 PM

Okay, I am now going to try and export back to tape my prospect project.
So, I see the export to tape is grayed out. I can not with CFHD to make an avi since I am still working with support to find root cause.

So, here is what I am trying. Use Microsoft avi for the file type.
I the go to video and use cineform HD compressor.

Now, I assume I need to make the output 1440x1080 to correctly have ready for a HDV project? But, if I do, what pixel aspect ratio do I use?

Okay, I pull an HDV clip in, and it says 1440x1080 1.3333 PAR
Ok, I can use that option if thats correct.

But, I just hooked my camera up, and the export to tape is now available.
If I hit export to tape, it says transcoding to HDV, and then starts recording on the camera. The record starts, the camera rolls, but nothing gets recorded.

So, I am confused, what is and does not work and how?

Okay, I now tried the export CF M2t format, so I could pull this into HDlink and try to export back to the camera. But, when I try this, I get an error saying it can not create the M2t File.

At least I got my DVD done. Still need to try WMV but want to get this back to take for saving.

Really hope this is really soon :-) 1.51 is eating up HD space for no reason other than this.

Is there a need for the entire 1.51 app to be installed on the machine or can it be deleted once the HDV directory is copied over to the 2.0 directory?

Hi Miguel,

Actually, you can simply copy the "HDV" directory from the "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Premiere Pro 1.5\Plug-ins\en_US" directory in to the "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0\Plug-ins\en_US".
You'll want to do the same with the "HDV" directory in "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Premiere Pro 1.5" to the "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0" directory
Then you can uninstall 1.5.1.

I'm working on implementing our new MPEG encoding solution and hope to have something before too long.

Dave Campbell January 22nd, 2007 02:13 PM

So, Tim, should I reinstall my 1.51, and do what you suggested to get back to tape?

Yes, that'll be fine. If you have another machine with 1.5.1 installed, you can just copy those folders over from it to the 2.0 machine.

Dave Campbell January 22nd, 2007 06:38 PM

Tim, Jake said this is the steps to use, which is different than the ones you posted.

"C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5\HDV"
not the HDV folder in the Plug-ins folder.
And just copy it to
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0\"

Okay, that part seemed to work. I am making the m2t file now. After done, will try hdlink to send back to tape. How would we ever get this stuff to work w/o the internet?

Dave

Dave Campbell January 22nd, 2007 08:22 PM

So, is there no way to just export straight to tape with the 1.5.1 HDV in Ppro2? If the setting is serial, then export to tape shows up, but when I select export to tape, it does not see my camera connected as firewire. If I change the setting to HDV, then the export to tape is grayed out.

So, if I did not mess up, I assume the current process is to export a M2T file, then use HDlink to export this M2t tape to HDV tape?

Thanks

Dave

Dave Campbell January 24th, 2007 02:26 PM

So, I just exported my M2t file back to my 25U with Hdlink. Worked like a champ!!!

What is the workaround?

Asking when Aspect HD will be able to print to tape. So what is the work-around if you don't have PP1.5. I only have 2.0. I'm need to out put TODAY so I can have my dubs done locally to go on air by Monday. Any and all help appreciated.

Chris Hurd March 16th, 2007 06:48 AM

This time of year (March) is without a doubt the absolute busiest for any software company in the video market, as it pretty much the eve of NAB. Frankly I would not expect anything new to be announced from anybody until the week of NAB (April 14th). That's when everything currently being worked on is announced. Typically the NAB news starts to come in between now (30 days prior) and April 14th but many companies won't actually make their statements until that particular week. No doubt CineForm will announce whatever they have as soon as they're ready to, but I wouldn't expect to hear anything prior to mid April.

Jerry Porter March 16th, 2007 09:07 AM

Thanks Chris that doesn't do me alot of good today.

Pete Bauer March 16th, 2007 09:42 AM

Sorry, Jerry, but as much as we all look forward to that functionality, it does no good to publically harangue the Cineform folks who are good enough to respond to our posts here.

Upon release of AspectHD 4.x last year, Cineform made clear that there were Print-to-Tape limitations. That was up-front, available information. If you needed that feature, then maybe this wasn't the right product for you.

In any case, one of my favorite sayings seems to apply: "lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part." You've had five months since first posting about the issue to create a workflow solution to avoid a "today" Print-To-Tape emergency.

Steven Gotz March 16th, 2007 09:45 AM

Since all you have to do is export a Cineform HD AVI and use it in a Adobe HDV project - and export to tape from there - I don't see it as a major hassle.

Jerry Porter March 16th, 2007 10:28 AM

Doesn't seem to work for me what are your settings? Still can't get one to work. I'm gettting alisasing all over the place and the animations are all off. What could cause this?

Jerry Porter March 16th, 2007 10:43 AM

Never mind I got it to work crisis averted for now. Thanks to all that helped. And sorry for the freak out.

Steve Young April 30th, 2007 05:48 AM

Im no doubt going to have to do this process soon and have the same setup of editing in Pro 2 - so just to clarify - once I have exported back to tape I essentialy have edited HDV content that I could hook up my camera to a HD source and show a client a preview of the work done without having to burn to blue ray or alternative?

Thanks

Steve

Steven Gotz April 30th, 2007 07:29 AM

Yes, that's correct.
