how long can you recored Cine Form avi?

I do really long form work and had asked about how long I could record via Prospect in PPRO2 in a tech conversation the other day. We came up the "better safe than sorry approach" and figured 30 min at Film scan 1, 1080 p 10 bit would be safe. (Same as the Panny 126 tapes in the 1200 deck)

So me just wanting to test the limit for my Knowledge I walked out at 5 pm and hit record. (No audio capture)

Gear:
Panasonic AK-HC1500G HDSDI out set at 1080p
To AJA Xena LHE in a HP xw8400 Workstation with CineForm(dual quad 2ghz, 4 gig mem, Atto 4gb fiber, NVIDIA 4000, sata 250 OS drive)
Galaxy HDX2 (fiber on channel one, 8 drives of the 16 sata 750g in raid 5)

I got in this morning figuring it had bombed miserably when looking at the black capture screen in PPro.

Noticed the time was 6 hours + 15 min and change (size of file little over half a Tera. 535g+ I think)
Surprised when I hit stop it went on to make the file and played just fine in Adobe…

IF you could open it with anything else, I didn’t check, as I will do the 30 min or so safe way….
So on my test at least don’t capture more than 6 hours at a shot….good thing day naps are not more than 20 Min with me..

You can make very large files. I've never hit a limit.

More than 500G?

Yes, the OpenDML AVI standard can support files up to size 16Million Terabytes -- yet I haven't tested this :).

David,

Let me know when that test if finished, but remember I'm 59! :)

Something a tad smaller than the volume you are capturing too -- maybe 2% smaller. When you hit stop you want to have enough room to close the file. When captureing in Premiere the record shutdowns automatically if you are too close to the end of the disk.

the volume was at 1.56 TB (fsucking windows)
Cant wait for new HD link Code...
