what is it ?
FS1, FS2, Offline?

David Newman May 15th, 2007 09:23 PM

FS1 = Filmscan 1 = damn good.
FS2 = Filmscan 2 = overkill.
Offline = is the highest compression for an offline image -- don't use it. The whole point of CineForm is it is an online format.

I like it - let's rename FS1 to "damn good"

David, you need to more your profile location to Solana Beach, it is like we are in difference offices. :)

David Taylor May 15th, 2007 10:21 PM

All right - we'll consolidate and close down the Carlsbad location....

Salah Baker May 16th, 2007 06:04 PM

just tryin to figure out data rates ...

FS1 = 15Mbs? "damn good" I say and they say "But, Sony XDCam is 18Mbs at lowest setting why not use that"
FS2 = 20Mbs? "OverKill" I say and they say "Hell XDCam next setting is 35 all the way to 50"
Offline = less than 15Mbs
FS1G = not a clue
FS2G = not a clue

Get where Im going?

Actually no.

Comparing MPEG long gop data rates to an intermediate codec doesn't make too much sense for comparing quality. Also you are mixing Mb/s = bits and MB/s Bytes terminology.

Now comparing to HDCAM-SR much more sense.

SR = 440Mb/s or 55MB/s
FS1 averages (4:2:2) around 18MB/s
FS2 averages (4:2:2) around 22MB/s
offline averages around well below 8MB/s (I don't use it so I don't know.)

What is FS1G?

1 "Comparing MPEG long gop data rates to an intermediate codec doesn't make too much sense for comparing quality."

2 "Also you are mixing Mb/s = bits and MB/s Bytes terminology. "

1 I know but I have to fight it.
2 Tired, Gray matter hurts :D

AFX export FS1 green.
Not on my sytem David, after hours , doing the day thoughts late in the day.

Basically doing the math of CineForm Vs. XD Cam cost, plus HDD vs Blueray

David Newman May 16th, 2007 06:33 PM

FSx keying modes are about 10-15% more data.
