Canon 30F and 25F Settings
 

Just got confirmation from Canon that the 25F and 30F modes transmit the HD-SDI video as psf (progressive segmented frames). So when using the XL-H1(s) with Flash XDR / nanoFlash, be sure to enable the psf-in check box when using these modes. The video will then be processed in true progressive format. If the psf-in is not checked, then the video is processed as 1080i50 or 1080i60 respectively.

The 24F mode will require pull-down removal to be processed as a true progressive frame. This firmware update is planned for November.

Thank you Mike for working to get this info. It's great news and confirms what Final Cut detailed were the properties of the test shots I made with the XLH1 switched to 30f and the XDR PSF menu checked to "In".

I'm thinking the value of the 30f progressive segmented frame would be that it helps reduce interlaced tearing in fast action and fast pans as it's capturing whole frames instead of combining 2 fields with vastly changed sharp fast action details?

Your understanding is correct, shooting in progressive mode will reduce the interlaced tearing in fast action. You can actually transmit this progressive video over HD-SDI in two different formats: p or psf. Either format produces the same exact video, but most everyone uses the psf format since it "looks" identical to 1080i to the HD-SDI switchers. So the format was created to make progressive transmission compatible with interlaced based switchers and routers.
