0.0.132 Firmware Posted

We just posted new Flash XDR firmware with much improved record reliability and enhanced menus. We have added control of the analaog audio, including microphone level adjustment and phantom power. The "about" menu now displays the firmware version.

The playback still needs work as sometime the "play" function can not be stopped without pulling the power plug. We should have this fixed in few more days. The default playback is the last recorded clip, however, you can select to play all the clips.

Playback of any selected clip(s) as well as internal storage of all menu settings will be available later this week (via another firmware update).

Next Update Coming Shortly

We found a couple of bugs related to vr 0.0.132 and should have an update tomorrow. Specifically, John identified the problem of corrupted frames which sometimes occur at the beginning of a new file. This was traced to an open-GOP issue which we added with QT support. An open-GOP can use data from the previous GOP to enable a very slight improvement in video compression. This works fine as long as the GOPs reside in the same file. However, if you simply open a random file, you loose the information from the previous GOP. Hence the corruption in the first few frames.

So, we are switching back to closed-GOP which should eliminate this issue, with virtually zero impact on quality.

We also have the QT playback corrected, so you no longer need to unplug the box to stop playback.

Finally, we hope to add the code to store all the menu setting, so they are automatically recalled on power-up.
