SD - Long Gop or I-Frame
Evening all,
Just a real quick one..... For FCP should I be recording SD material in Long GOP or I-Frame with my Flash XDR. not having FCP myself I am unable to experiment. Many thanks, Stuart |
I recommend Long GOP, but FCP can edit either without issues. Long GOP will give you higher quality at any given bitrate. Highest quality is my first priority. If edit ease is YOUR first priority, I recommend I-Frame.

Once you actually get FCP, request some sample files and try it out for yourself.

SD Format
Hi Stuart, Aaron-
The IMX format used for Quicktime and MXF SD recording in the nanoFlash is always 4:2:2 I-Frame only. You can use Long-GOP in the MPG format, but MPG is not a good choice for editing (it's intended for DVD and Blu-Ray). Best- |
Hi Mike,
Thanks for that information. Does that mean that no matter what the CODEC setting is in my Flash XDR it will ONLY record SD in I-Frame? Thanks, |
Quote:
Yes. We follow the IMX standard which only allows I-Frame. So we force the I-Frame CODEC if you use MXF or QT and we detect an SD source. Best- |
I'm sorry. I missed the whole "SD" part. So yeah,... what Mike said.
