Very impressed by Nanoflash

Thought I'd post to share my first experience with using the Nanoflash.

My day job is as a freelance cameraman/editor in the ENG world, but I have a sideline shooting skiing.

I've been thinking of buying a nanoflash for a while for its capabilities as a compact backup pool recorder, as well as various workflow improvements and quality gains when plugged into cameras, so I hired one (from Promotion in London) for a ski shoot last week to put it though its paces. I downloaded the manual, glanced over it for about five minutes and then started shooting, it performed flawlessly. I was moving constantly between shooting formats (1080p25 for standups and non-cranked action, 720p50 for action that I planned to crank), data rates - (100Mbps for standups, higher rates for action) and i-frame/long gop and was impressed by both the ease of use, quality and robustness - the results are quite simply mindblowing in quality for a small camera.

My only complaint was the lack of a locking mechanism for the cards - they easily pop out if knocked by a clumsy operator or in an ENG/action shooting situation, nothing that a bit of duck tape didn't cure though.

Temperatures got down to well below zero (C), and we worked in conditions for blizzards to blue skies and anything in between.

So thanks guys for a great product, I'll be buying one, and I look forward to playing with the Gemini too!

James

Dear James,

I am very pleased that you like our nanoFlash.

I designed a Card Protector for the nanoFlash.

It is available at www.nanoFlash.net on the CompactFlash webpage (near the bottom of the page, just scroll down).

Note: The "Temporarily Unavailable" applies to one type of CompactFlash card, above.
