Gemini on YouTube

Here is a YouTube video presented the new Gemini (though it sound like “Jim and I” to my Slovak ears):

Until I saw that video I did not know how useful it is for stereoscopic recording (or is it a separate product from the Gemini 4:4:4?). From the description of it, it is also conceivable to use it when shooting a scene with two separate cameras (such as is often done with interviews) and have them TC synchronized. Perhaps someone from CD can formally confirm this.

Re: Gemini on YouTube

Dear Adam,

The Gemini 4:4:4 can be upgraded with a $1,995 3D option.

This option is firmware that fully supports 3D within one Gemini 4:4:4.

In addition, if one has two gen-locked cameras, it can be used to record two independent video streams (but they must be genlocked).

In 3D, the unit can record up to 16 channels of 24 Bit, 48k audio per video stream, thus up to 32 channels of isolated audio.

We demonstrated 3D (in a limited fashion) at NAB.

Our 3D option supports a Side by Side mode, Line by Line, Anaglyph, and a 50% + 50% composite mode.

Any mode may be displayed on the built in monitor, and/or sent out the two HD-SDI outputs.

The two inputs may be HD-SDI (1.485 Gbps) or HD-SDI 3G.

The two video streams are recorded in full uncompressed onto two separate SSD's.

Not all frame rates are supported, such as 1080p60 as one video stream requires two SSD's just to handle the bandwidth.

As State-of-the-Art SSD's increase in speed, then this restriction may be lifted.

1080p24, 4:2:2 or 4:4:4, 10-Bit, in two independent streams, with 16 channels of audio each, are supported with our SSD's (provided the input streams are genlocked).

Thanks, Dan. That looks like a great product.
