A transition like this
 

I`d like to make a transistion kind of like the one seen in this video when the text box comes on in red (just i need to do it in reverse):

Think of it like I want the top video to be wind swept off the bottom one. I`m not sure there is anything out there like that, so how could I make it. Kind of like motion blur that slowly pulls the video away in the direction of the motion blur. Make sense?

It could be done in after effects, I know, and quite possibly motion or something along those lines.

I would create a greyscale layer of video illustrating how far each pixel of the picture should be 'swept' to the side. (Using particle generator, blur, etc or feathered masks on solid layers) Then, hide that layer and add the 'displacement' (I think that's the name) filter to the video layer and set it to look at that layer we created to determine displacement values, and the direction to displace. :)

It would allow you to control the motion using the layer you created - and fine tune from there to get the effect you want. There's probably an easier way. I'm actually fairly certain there is. =D But this is how I know how to do it. :)

You could get really creative and shoot video of white sand being blown off a black flat board. Then use a luma key of that as a matte for your transition. :)

well sand was just to get the idea of the top one being removed from the other in that kind of fashion, not necessarily in grains. It will be going along with alot of fast motion, fast panning, so I want it to feel the motion of the video kind of goes too fast and pulls the video away to reveal the next

Yeah. You could get that effect easily using what I described in AE. But I'm sure there's an easier way. =D

hmmmm you know i may be able to do it all in PS and Premiere just with a track matte on the same idea. I don't need the image to distort, just be swept, so i will try track matting it with a black and white matteand stretching it. Thanks for getting my creativity working

You can do it in AE CS3 With the puppet tool
 

You can create a shape layer on top of your video and use the roughen edges tool. Then you make puppet pin points along the front of that shape and using keyframes drag the shape to reveal your footage

sherman, in what program are you talking about? I haven't heard of some og the things you mention

I'm sorry Nathan, I'm talking about Adobe After Effects CS3. The more I think about it you may be able to use Premiere as well using matte and keyframes. I know in other programs you can make a gradient matte and reveal the shape with a luma matte
