Readme: if you want some help
 

There seem to be quite a few threads along the lines of "how do I...?". Always glad to help, and there appear to be quite a few people on here who can sort things out.

If you are going to ask a how to question, particularly if it's a problem with something you're working on, then it would be great if you could add some key pieces of info whenever you do.

1. Intent - be as clear as you can be about your intended outcome. Over-explaining is better than under-explaining here.

2. Settings:
- In After Effects, look under composition>composition settings> and add the information from that dialogue box
- In Shake, look to your global settings
- In After effects, look for information about the source footage/images you're using (right-click on the item in the project window, look at "interpret footage"). You'll get framerate, size, interlacing, etc.
- In Shake, look at the settings of the "file in" node for information
- Do similar things for all the other effects apps

3. Things you're using:
- Which effects/plugins/nodes are you using?
- What are the settings on the most important ones?

4. Examples - above all else, examples, whether stills or movies, will help explain what you want and what you have. They contain details that are difficult to express in laymans terms and flag issues that you may not have considered. Often, seeing the picture will lead someone to an alternate, and better method of achieving your desired aim. You can export stills through the render queue in After effects, and with a "file out" node in Shake.

5. Hardware - if your question is about hardware, or performance in your application, then include details of your system and if you intend to purchase new items, a rough budget for suggestions.

That's probably too much information, but it really will help get those questions answered more quickly and more accurately. Keep 'em coming.
