Apple software update - What HDV Camera shoots 4:2:2?
Just checked Apple updates on my computer - This update was for March 28, 2008. I went to the release notes for the latest information at: http://www.apple.com/support/release...Studio_2.0_rn/
It states - Apple updates their HDV Codec to version 1.4 to provide 4:2:2 support in Final Cut Pro (6.0.3). Is this to support a new camera or is this indicative of the HDV to ProRes workflow? Anyone have any answers? Is this to support a new camera that will be rolled out at NAB? -Geoff Chris - I didn't know if this should go under the "Non-Linear Editing on the Mac" Forum or not. The information got me thinking more about Cameras than NLE support. |
EX1 I believe shoot 4:2:2.

I have an EX1 and it shoots 4:2:0 long GOP.

And technically, the EX1 does not shoot HDV.

Sony XDCam PDW-700. Apple's just calling the Xdcam HD 4:2:2 stuff HDV 4:2:2 because it's the same decoder on their end.
I wonder if Sony's 4:2:2 long-gop mpeg2 stuff is implemented in a similar way to DVCPro50 (IE, just two 4:2:0 HDV streams offset so that when combined they give 4:2:2)? |
Hi Colin,
I thought the same thing too at first, but the XDCam support is listed under the notes for the Sony XDCAM HD422 support - The HDV listing is it's own notes section. -Geoff |
Maybe It's both?
Maybe its a new codec coming out. Or maybe its just a more direct way to renencode hdv into pro-res 422
|
IIRC some of the Sony's live feed 4:2:2 before encoding,
|
Yeah it's most likely just for live-capture via HDMI (HVR-V1U/HVR-Z7U) or live-capture via HD-SDI (HVR-Z270U).

If I do the 6.0.3 download for final cut am I going to have any issues with current projects I am working on in final cut now or should I wait till I finish the stuff I am currently working on.

There is always a (little) risk that something goes wrong (plugins or whatever) and you do not want to get that headache while fetching your deadline... |
Thanks Guys I think I will wait til my project is done.
