Boy, I can hardly wait to ask the boss to buy a $60K HD Kayak switcher.
I actually do want to have The University purchase a Kayak switcher, but if it were to happen and then Grass Valley dies, then what? I can't even think about it until this is settled.

GV needs to get this kind of uncertainty resolved and in a hurry.

BTW, I'll say thanks to Thompson at NAB ;-(

It's been on the cards for a while. I'm led to believe that was one reason the Infinity was delayed for so long.

It would be a major shame if GV went down. It would be like GM going under and I hope it doesn't happen as from what I have learned they make some of the most robust gear in the industry. The GV Kayak is a real beautiful piece. I really don't want to have to go with some plastic tinker toy w/ 4 inputs that takes half a second before it can make a hard cut, but maybe that is just the way it is going?

IF, and I say IF, GVG destines the Kayak to failure and obscurity, look at Ross Video's Synergy series. Ross and GVG have always had very similar interfaces so it's easy to migrate between them. I've got time on some small Synergy switchers (1.5 MLE) and quite enjoyed it.

Thanks for the Ross Video Synergy tip. It looks like a nice desk and similar to GV.

re: Synergy--If automation is in your future, Ross' Overdrive will do a lot more than GV. I'm not positive this was against the Kayak though...
