Isn't this just about the ENG camera that has been announced for some time now? I could most certainly be wrong.

Yes, at NAB JVC was showing an early, non-functional mockup of the next HDV cam, ENG-style. They were unwilling to talk many specifics about the cam except to promise it would have 2/3" CCD's and support 24p.

If it had 24p, and a Cine-look mode, this camera could be the new Sherrif of Indietown for low (not that low) budget film makers.

Yeah, I don't know that much about lenses for 2/3" cameras, but with a couple of decent primes a rig like this could be everything an indie filmmaker would ever need.

Anyone want to run down a list of cost-effective lens options for something like this?

Heh...OK, OK...got any idea how much Canon's FJs series HD primes sell for? I could get a lot of mileage out of the 9mm and the 24mm as a really stripped-down set of primes. Let me guess, they're $25k or so each?

Yeah, Chris - that's cold. Funny, but cold...Actually, JVC used to have some pretty reasonable lenses budled with the DV500. They currently list the low end at around $1800 for a 16:1 Canon. Of course, that's for a 1/2" lens. The 2/3" lens on the D-9 camera will start at around $4,000. Yipee!

That's for non-HD stuff.
