Note that this covers S35 - good for the 7D, but not the 5D2.

As a 7D owner this sounds perfect though I suspect it may cost twice the price or more of 7D. I have a Tamron f2.8 zoom which is a decent lens for the money but focus range is about nil.

I rather suspect the Zeiss LWZ.2 would cost many times the cost of a 7D.

I expect the main market will be the RED, the Digital Arri and other 35mm sensor cameras rather than for DSLRs and is competing with this:

Angenieux Optimo DP Rouge 16-42mm Zoom Lens :: Zoom Lenses :: 35mm Format :: Film Lenses :: Lenses & Optical Lens Adapters :: Equipment Sales :: Abel Cine Tech

I was looking at the wrong lens as the link does not work direct. Yeah, that lens is likely the price of a Red One.

Emmanuel Plakiotis April 17th, 2010 08:04 PM

The advantage of this lens compared with the similar focal range/priced Angenieux is the interchangeable lens mount of the Arri for use in the HDSLR market. The Angenieux, because of the rear element, could does not mount even on regular cine cameras.
Although I doubt anybody will consider it buying the Arri as a companion to a 7D,renting it could be a viable alternative. Another benefit of the lens is that you can use it with the EF mount on the Alexa or the Red, so you don't have to change mounts when you pop a Canon lens.
