Pre-NAB 4K+ Roundup
I expect 4K to be a popular topic at NAB. For those of us trying to cram the show into a day or so, it might be helpful to compile a list of 4K products that we will (and might) see...
RED - Epic and Scarlet-X will certainly be at the show. RED RAY (a 4K player) has been shown previously in prototype form. RED is committed to 4K (and beyond) so no telling what else we might see. RED.com Sony - Sony has the F65 and 4K projectors. They recently announced the NEX-FS700 which will deliver 4K to an external recorder. http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/digital-...inema-cam.html http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/sony-nxc...-its-real.html JVC - The GY-HMQ10 camera records 4K. http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/jvc-gy-h...w-cam-jvc.html Canon - When Canon announced the C300 and Canon's new Hollywood Professional Technology and Support Center, they also spoke of a 4K DSLR to be introduced around the end of the year. It's unlikely that we will see anything at NAB, but you never know. http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/digital-...announced.html I don't know of any 4K camera announcements from Panasonic or Hitachi at this time. Of course, most any high-resolution stills cam can shoot 4K time lapse, but that's not really news. I believe that all the major NLEs (Avid, Apple, Adobe, Sony) can handle 4K, true? Are there others? Avid Editing Family Forum at DVinfo.net Final Cut Pro X Forum at DVinfo.net Adobe Creative Suite Forum at DVinfo.net What Happens in Vegas... Forum at DVinfo.net I'm sure that my list is incomplete. If people are aware of other cameras, monitors, projectors, and other announced 4K products, please add a post with the details. This would also be a great place to add new, pre-NAB announcements of 4K products as they become available. As always, Chris likes a clean forum, so when there are threads dedicated to specific products, please list the product here and include a link to that thread so the detailed discussions happen in the right place. Let's keep this thread as more of a clearinghouse so we can easily plan our 4K NAB tours. |

Re: Pre-NAB 4K+ Roundup
The Aaton Penelope Delta should be at NAB, they seem to be planning for their first digital camera to be available later in the year. http://www.aaton.com/files/delta-p_sept-2011.pdf
I haven't seen the Lightworks NLE final spec yet, but I'd imagine it'll have 4K in some form, certainly it will be able to handle RED as one of the licensed codecs. The impression I get is that they're aiming for NAB for the release version. Will it become a major player again? That could be an interesting question. |

JVC 4K interchangeable-lens version?! Its April 5th, better not be another joke that's 4 days late.
If there is official info on that camera, it deserves its own thread. Please, post a link / start a thread. |

Re: Pre-NAB 4K+ Roundup
Ace Unitech has a few 4K+ recorders, including one that records uncompressed up to 1.2G pixel/s. It's programmable to handle various combinations, including 8k/4k, 3D, 480Hz, 16bit, RGB. The interface is
Dual-Link DVI x 8ch. They also have lower spec 4K recorders, a camera mountable 2K recorder, and a 4K 3D monitor. Booth C12349 Ace unitech I have no affiliation with them and haven't used their products. Just adding them to the 4K thread. |

The interesting bit is the new multi slot shutter idea, which allows the camera to be rated at 100 ISO and 800 ISO without ND filters and IR problems. |
Re: Pre-NAB 4K+ Roundup
The above thread was for NAB 2012. Let's revive the thread for NAB 2013.
So... what's new? RED has the Dragon sensor. Sony has the F5 and F55. Canon has the 1DC and 500C Any other 4K camera news? How about 4K recorders? 4K players? 4K (or UHD) displays? 4K video cards (in and/or out) for computers? Post press release and product links in this thread. I'm curious to see if 4K/UHD is accelerating, steady, or stalling... |

What does seem to be fading away is 1080p/50(60), at least in the broadcast etc field. It seems to now fall between stools - been pushed aside by 4k as the "future-proof" standard, but too much effort for the "here-today" world. I don't see 1080p/50(60) ever now being the new broadcast transmission standard. Things will either stay as they are, or there will be a leapfrog to 4k. If you're going to update a standard, it's pointless to do it incrementally. |
Re: Pre-NAB 4K+ Roundup
There were the 4K consumer prototypes from Sony and Panasonic at CES '13. Hopefully, there's more info on them at NAB.
Maybe JVC will release the Nikon mount 4K prototype they had at NAB '12? But the quad SD cards doesn't seem to be the best solution. |
Re: Pre-NAB 4K+ Roundup
At least we already have 2 announced 4K players, Redray and the PS4.
Theirs one more camera that's not mentioned: Sneak Peek Pictures of the Panasonic 4K Varicam Camera? : Cinescopophilia It'll for sure be going up against the top dogs from Red and Sony. |
Re: Pre-NAB 4K+ Roundup
What is the status of Aaton Penelope Delta?
GoPro, they are doing 4K after all, but I don't think they will leave their comfort zone and go up against the big boys that are already losing money in their market. |

Last year, Aja announced the Ki Pro Quad, but I don't think it made it into this thread.

Nothing wrong with the way you posted that PR, Jacques -- but I had to look twice; it's from last year's CineGear Expo.

Interesting as I have just now heard about this today from two different sources.

I almost forgot about another 4K camera that was shown a while back. It's a big chip version of the HMQ10U.

Re: Pre-NAB 4K+ Roundup
What's going on with Panasonic? It seems like the rest of the brands have left them standing. I bought a GH3 recently and would like to see the af100 replaced with a decent codec since i'll eventually build up nice selection of M4/3 glass and would like a "real" video camera to compliment the GH3.
Are there any rumours about what Panny are up to? |
Re: Pre-NAB 4K+ Roundup
Hey, I'm with you, my first choice for my next camera purchase is the AF200 (or whatever it's called). However, I don't think anything is going to happen (we'll see at NAB). If not, I'm purchasing the Canon C100 from one of the sponsors here on DVinfo......

Re: Pre-NAB 4K+ Roundup
Nah! Panasonic must be on the verge of some major new announcements. It's inconceivable that they're throwing in the towel to Sony and Canon. I was surprised how quiet they were at NAB last year and am expecting a big showing this year, and some stiff competition. We'll soon find out. I hope i'm right.
