that RC-V100 remote control is a mystery...

a $3000 remote control that works with all the C cameras and xf cameras that controls a number of camera functions?

it can't be as simple as a timer remote kind of thing, nor can it be just a regular lanc controller, as that price tag is astronomical for either of those types. so just what is it? the worlds most advanced lanc remote?

with all those buttons, i guess it'll use both the lanc and usb ports. certainly is interesting what they worked into it

We were thinking along the same lines. I was in the middle of uploading that pic when you made your post. This press release has a lot of interesting news, but the controller is the item of greatest intrigue for me.

Those functions on the remote control are more than the usual IR and LANC remotes of the past. Those are common CCU functions for studio and live broadcast environments. $3k is par for the course. Having them sub $10K cameras is pretty cool.

Dual Pixel AF for the C100 is not on the roadmap. Is that new news?

Attached is the PR from Nov 2013 currently found here:

@Les: Dual-Pixel AF for the C100 was announced back in November:

Canon offers Dual Pixel AF Upgrade for EOS C100 at DV Info Net

*edit* Oh, wait. I see what you're saying. It's not on the grid in that PR. Their oversight, methinks. I'll add it.

*edit* I've updated the table on that page to show Feb 2014 availability for Dual-Pixel AF on the C100, because the page at Canon USA says "available now."

Thanks for catching that, Les!

Found this Canon USA page today:

Canon U.S.A. : RC-V100 Remote Controller

Looks like it's probably LANC and there is a USB port for controller firmware updates (hmm).

That's a lot of buttons on the RC-V100! Obviously for studio use, externalising the internal set up options. What I find interesting is that it is a LANC unit on a 5 metre cable. I wonder if they are planning to port these controls onto an iPad for WiFi communication which would seem more contemporary.

I met with a Senior Cinema EOS product manager at the BVE show in London 2 days ago and he was very enthusiastic about this unit. He was involved in the development of both the XF and Cinema EOS camera range and was demonstrating the new Dual Pixel autofocus on a C100. We had a great chat and also talked about the possible development of a servo zoom lens for the Cinema Eos cameras.

He then walked with me across the exhibition floor and introduced me to Jeromy Young of Atomos who ran through all the advantages of using the Atomos Samourai Blade with the C300. Certainly convinced me and I should receive this unit today.

After a slow start I really feel that Canon is putting a lot of effort into listening to and supporting Cinema Eos users.
