Re: New Sony action cameras announced at CES

I'm pretty much with Mark, and have converted everything I do to 4K, including GoPro. A new factor is the availability of gimbal stabilizers - especially for GoPro. I shoot in some unsteady places, from airplane cockpits, and the smoothness I get is amazing. Post processing for stability is just not needed. At 30fps you still need to pan as slowly as usual for 30fps, but this is easy to do. I don't ski anymore, but if I did I'd use a gimbal stabilizer and 4K. The only question is how much wind these stabilizers can handle; they definitely can take some but I haven't found the limit.

4K at 60P and I would agree with you. 4K at 30P and that requires careful camera work and then the image will still have some judder due to the slower frame rate. Personally I prefer the smooth motion. I have a FDR-AX1 and always shoot at 60P as I find 30P unacceptable to my eyes. Yes the image is sharper and downscaled to HD is lovely and in the future it will no doubt be possible to smooth out the 30P motion just like my Sony TV does for most of the things I watch now. I am waiting for a smaller camera that will shoot 60P or at least have better low light performance than my FDR-Ax1.

I would prefer 4K60p too. But let's remember that in February (promised firmware update) you will have 2.7K at 60 fps. Better than HD and 60p!

Yes I think I mentioned that in my earlier post.
