Perhaps surprising, given their seeming Editshare (owner of Lightworks) limks, but Redshark is offering a series of video tutorials on editing with Resolve,

I am so very impressed with Resolve.
I've even stopped using Vegas and use Resolve for all my work.
I've just finished shooting some sixteen studio drama scenes, all edited and graded within Resolve...

Robin,

That is interesting as I use Vegas for my wedding work and I need some sort of constant grading look throughout the video.

Would you recommend Resolve for weddings?

My problem is with the different light sources thru the day....From indoor lighting at houses, to bright sun, the dark church and reception filled with DJ disco lights going all over the place.
I've tried grading, but what looks great in one scene, looks bad somewhere else (indoor vs outdoor..too dark/light)

Hi Julius,
I really would consider using Resolve for your weddings.
The colour grading process is so far ahead of the Vegas offering. You have the professional workflow using nodes, which is very much industry standard - so you can apply various levels of grading and control them all independently. Resolve has a brilliant masking and tracking tool. You can isolate different areas of your image and grade them separately, even isolating a particular colour and adjusting it, without affecting any other part of the image.

Brian, thanks for posting. The software looks great and very easy to learn. Having used FCP for years and now PPCC user this looks worth a try.

I gather that the editing section is less demanding on computing power than if using the colour correction on Resolve.

While considering other NLEs, tt may also be worth checking out Lightworks, which has a major build public beta due out shortly.

Hi there
I watched the first ones yesterday and it certainly seems very complete on the editing front now, as well as its renowned colour grading features.
Not sure yet I'll switch from Premiere, as I like the ability to be able to interface easily with After Effets in the same project, and I have Magic bullet and other plug-in's, with no rendering... that It doesn't have...

I'm not really an ace at grading so I like to be able to apply a look as a base grade and tweak it around until i get what I like. With Resolve I'd need to start from scratch and this goes beyond my level of colourism...at the mo.

That said it has a few nice features, that were brought up in the first videos that Premiere doesn't seem to have. I've been using Premiere for ever so you kind of get used to a programme.

I agree, I like PPCC for my editing and have become very fast and efficient in the software. But for grading when I do have to shoot RAW or SLOG DaVinci Resolve seems to be the best choice. Not that I am shutting out Black Magic from editing, never say never.

For learning the software I have chosen to use Doug Jensen's DaVinci Resolve training. Since the EX1 came out I have used Vortex Media training videos for all of my 10 past Sony cameras. It gets me up to speed quickly and worth every penny. Now Doug has a different approach with his DaVinci Resolve training, it is more like a live classroom environment. I like it and feel it is worth a look if you want to dive in and use this software for grading. In a few hours you will be up and running.
