They also added one of the things I hated about the old version...you can keyframe the effects the same way as in FCPro now.

I'm still learning Final Cut Express--but I'm glad to hear of an upgrade[$99 ain't too bad, much better then buying a new version] and it is gonna be universal.

Migrating/graduating from iMovie to FCE is intimidating at first...reminds me of the scene in "Airplane" when the camera pans across all the flight instruments of the cockpit, which goes on and on.

But once I had that "ah-ha" moment, that epiphany, I'm probably never going back to imovie.

The nice thing about moving up is that you learn the basic concepts on iMovie, and translate just those skills to the larger NLE (cuts, fades and effects). After that everything else is a new concept that you wouldn't have had before. But the stuff you learned in iMovie is 90% of the technical side of the NLE you'll use. Everything else is to enhance the story you've told with the cuts and fades.

Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuude.

Livetype 2.0 should be pretty nifty with the new vector based fonts. Not only do they scale with no resolution loss but they also take up less space and should be speedier.

Soundtrack 1.5 has a totally new User Interface that is more customizable. Tear off menus and windows that can be moved around.

I'm placing my order this fall when I get a new cheapo minidv camera. Next year hopefully we'll have AVCHD support.

Stupid question:

Anyone here know if this upgrade is free if I already own FCX HD?

I just upgraded from FCX2 a couple months ago and I don't want to have to turn my head and cough up another 99 bucks.

Thanks

Boyd Ostroff May 18th, 2006 07:39 PM

It's a $99 upgrade. Unfortunately your purchase timing was bad :-(
