Inside the iPhone

It didn't take long for iFixit to dissect an iPhone: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPhone

ThinkSecret did their own teardown too: http://thinksecret.com/archives/ipho...art/index.html

While I totally understand the desire to see what's inside - and appreciate that people with an interest in modern semiconductor device manufacturing will be fascinated at how Apple is manufacturing these...

My early experience is that while what this thing IS is pretty cool in and of itself - the real evolution is how easily and elegantly it does what it does.

I could care less what processor they picked, or how they implemented the touch screen. I just know that two hours ago I found myself on the side of the freeway looking for a pretty obscure business location where I have to shoot next week.

Opened my new iPhone, and sure enough, there was my desktop Mac's bookmark, synced perfectly. Google maps helped me find the place, and on the way, I tapped the number, phoned, and told them I was running 15 minutes late.

Got to the location and did the site survey with the iPhone camera function. Nice clear pictures.

I think Mies van der Rohe (the form follows function guy, iirc) would be pretty pleased with the way the iPhone seems to be working in these initial "on the street" real life tests.

It ain't perfect - and there will always be room for improvement. But after a single day, it's proving to be an extremely useful "digital assistant."

So far I'm delighted. 48 hours and so far, I couldn't be happier.

fwiw.
