Dual Layer Burning
 

Does anyone know if the new DVD-R DLs are any better than DVD+R DLs for compatibility with video players? Also, is there any software out there that lets you choose the layer break for either type of disk? Seems like this format is still no good for duplication and distribution to customers.

I've left everyone speechless it seems.

I don't know about compatibility with players, but I haven't be able to burn +R DL discs using sony dvd architect 3 and a pioneer burner, so it seems we may go through that whole dvd compatibility issues again.
Plus I still find players that will not play +R single layer dvd's, so -R is the better and only option for me anyway

DVD Architect lets you choose the layer break? Well that's something.

So no one has actually tried the Verbatim DVD-R DLs yet? I don't want to buy a DVD-R DL drive until I know that using it won't be futile. I still haven't found a good use for my DVD+R DL drive.

Compatibility seems to vary depending on which DVD burner is used. According to PC Magazine, the LaCie 16x d2 DVD+R Double Layer drive produced disks that played on every set top player and computer drive they tried (http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,1728381,00.asp).
