Batch encoding AC3s
I use Procoder to convert files from DV to MPEG2. In the process, the audio channel is demultiplexed into a WAV file. Since Procoder can not create AC3 files, what is the easiest way of converting a folder of WAV files to AC3? I would hate to do it manually in Vegas (my editing application).
the wav files created by procoder typically have a limited bitrate, in order to fit on a dvd... depending on your application, they would probably not be suitable for use as an ac3 encoding source.
Not at all; they are 16-bit PCM files. I should have indicated that I was working in stereo, not surround.
16-bit pcm at what bitrate, tho? and how does that bitrate compare to exporting an uncompressed wav file directly out of vegas?
16 bit at 48khz--unmodified sound from DV.
my bad, now i see what you are saying... i wonder if anyone has written a vegas script that batch-converts wav files to ac3? even if you had to buy it, the cost should be less than getting another ac3 encoder... sounds like a good question for the vegas forum.

Batch encoding PCM to AC3.
ReelDVD from Sonic ($250) will batch encode PCM files to AC3. There are other solutions (i.e. by Minetonka Audio) but as far as I know, more expensive.

Thanks, for weighing in. I ended up using Belight.
