Just to clarify: Discovery used to own Travel, but sold it to Cox Communications in exchange for the 25% stake in Discovery that Cox owned. Travel is now fully owned and operated by Cox. Discovery is considering taking over ad sales but not programming for Travel. Scripps (Food Network, HGTV) is one of many potential buyers for Travel, which has put itself up for sale.

And here's another thread where we discuss Travel shows and pilots:

Rick may well be right about tech eval and all that stuff, but I just thought it would be good to clarify who owns what at the moment, even if it isn't exactly on-topic.

I'd not switch anything. I'd record with HDV cameras, leave the lights at home and finesse in post.

And just to close the loop on this old thread, shortly after my last post, Scripps did in fact buy Travel, and it is now fully owned and operated by them. Discovery is out of the picture entirely.
