Have you looked at the Library of Congress? They have over 4 million maps, and most are on line. I went to the viewing room, and they will bring you anything you want. They have the largest collection in the world. I asked about a map from the Seminoles Wars, and they brought out the original map that Zachary Taylor used, and just handed it to me. The room has a place to photograph the maps. No one seems to know about this place, even in the Library itself. It is in the basement hidden from the masses.

I found the following site and spoke to a rep who says that we could use these maps for TV docs.

The cost is $399 for vector maps of the U.S. the detail is pretty good, would like to see a bit more but I think it will work for us.
