Example of home made dolly
 

My latest commercial spot was created with just a camera, 500w lowel light with umbrella reflector, and a home made track dolly.

About this spot:
The first 15 sec. were shot hand held, whereas the latter 15 sec. were shot using the dolly for a stark difference between "the other guys" and "the good mechanics".

To further differentiate, the two "segments" were color graded.

Flux Capacitor? Clearly that first mechanic had no clue! It is clearly a problem with the bypass line of the pfitzer valve. What he needs is some 40w motor oil and some ball bearings. Perhaps he needs a refresher course?

Someone had a rough day of shooting the Hausfeld's spot. That's the one you needed to dolly around the side on.

Same garage, but different camera technique and colorization?

The shot of the tool box, because you are using a dolly, the vertical movement looks like a jib down, but was it a tilt down?

Great job, very humorous!!

Yeah, the whole spot was done in the same garage, but the color grading really helped seperate it visually. No jib was used, the shot you are talking about is merely a tilt down with the camera butted up against the edge of the toolbox and at the full wide end of the lense.

That was really great. The weakest part is they don't have a nifty logo you could pop on-screen or to close.

Who wrote the spot? Really funny and clearly makes its point.

How big an effort was that for you? That is really something to be proud of.

I should have gone to south metro instead of those guys that just put a new trans-orbital roto-plooker in my mini-van. Ah, well ... next time I know where to go.

I wrote the spot. As for your second question, it wasn't too big of a deal, I came up with three ideas for which I wrote out rough scripts for and drafted storyboards to present to the client.

Then when they chose the idea they liked best I polished the script, submitted it for client approval, set up a shoot time, and shot for 2.5 hours and edited for 2 hours.

I enjoyed the spot tremendously.

Nice writing and production value. I would love to see pictures of your dolly also.
