Miller tripod and dolly

Hi, everyone.

I just want to make sure that I'm using the equipment correctly. In this YouTube video I have a tripod mounted on a dolly. I have folded the rubber "stirrups" (that's the name on the official diagram) in and put the "feet" of the tripod sort of squarely onto the stirrups. It's very stable. Is that the "pro" way to do it?

Er, Richard..............

Please excuse my ignorance, as my knowledge of Miller equipment is scant, but that set of sticks would appear to have a foot design at odds with the dolly mounting system.

The dolly mount appears to be a pretty standard Manfrotto/ Vinten twin spike system, where the spikes stradle that groove in the fitting, the "thong" then being stretched over a projection on the foot.

The feet on the sticks are obviously not designed for such a fitting, more likely designed for the Manfrotto 114MV type system where the leg itself (not the foot) is clamped by a totally different mechanism.

As seen in the video, a simple nudge with the wheels locked would be enough to have the lot straight off the dolly and heading floorwards at 32 feet per second per second. Not a good look.

I'd get back to Miller and ask "what gives", as the two systems appear mutually incompatible.

PS: Correction, the dolly I mentioned is not the one I meant. The one I meant appears to have been withdrawn from sale, though if you go to this link and check out the banner photographs, the right hand pictured dolly is the one I'm talking about.

The Miller unit you seem to need would appear to be this one, though quite how that attaches any better than the one you have is something of a mystery, as they omit any mention of said attachment.

Best I can for now.

Chris,

It's actually really stable when you put the two together. But I thought there was something wrong about it. Thanks.

Richard
