I want to buy a slider....

...but which one?

There are a number of offerings out there ranging from the 'ebay only' imports to high-end cinema jobs costing $$$$. I'd love to hear feedback on rigs in the $350-$650 range (Westside AV, Kessler Pocket Dolly, Digital Juice Slyder, etc.)

I've read some pros and cons here on some of the offerings (Kinova, for one) and I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for so I don't think I want to settle for something that *might* do the job.

Thoughts, anyone? Experiences to share? Thanks in advance.

Re: I want to buy a slider....

I'm using a Cinevate Atlas.
It is very smooth (thanks to the dozens of bearings). If you move it at the right speed the first take, you don't need another take, because it 'juttered': it can't 'get stuck' because it's more of a rider than a slider.
I often use 2 tripods to set it up at a height between 45 and 130cm (18"-30"): that takes time.
But it is very stable and super smooth.
With the all terrain legs you can put it on the floor, table, chairs, stones, whatever, as long as the camera can move.

Great gear, but probably above your budget.
Some slide-moves can be seen here:

Thanks Walter. I considered the Atlas 10 but ended up with a Digital Juice Slyder dolly. Unfortunately, I haven't had much time yet to play with it but the first couple of tests I did were quite satisfying.

I realize you already have one but for those who would like to DIY a motorized one. http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/dolly-tr...us-slider.html
