Dolly ad-ons for tripods
 

I know in a perfect world we could afford dolly and tracks but
being on a budget, I'm about to buy a dolly (Libec Dl-5s) for my
Libec LS-55dv. Does anybody use such dollies? like a manfrotto or any other set up? how are they?

It's obvious they won't fit all tripods
but How does yours go? Good? Is there any comparison to other Dollies?
Now I'm thinking big! like hooking it up to a Jib.

I don't use the Libec but I do use a tripod dolly on some of my narrative shoots. Mine is a lot cheaper and lighter. I've had a problem with floors with too many grooves -- such as thin strips of hard-wood, oddly spaced tile, sidewalks. The vibration can get pretty intense and make the shot unusable. There were times that just having a light tripod braced against my body and shooting handheld was a lot smoother.

However, some shots with the dolly tripod have been amazing. I've found that it works great for shorter dolly shots. It works well with flat surfaces (like a wooden board). Or if the jarring is minimal, I sometimes turn on the image stabilizer (but this can create odd jitter when actors move too quickly). It works okay on asphalt, but that can be tricky. Even a small pebble hitting one of your wheels can ruin a shot.

I'm tossing it up between buying an ad on dolly or just rent out a dolly plus track. who knows hopefully I can do both. What dolly are you using?

I should take a picture of mine for reference to posting, but I have a Bogen Tripod and it fits in my dolly just fine. I was very blessed to get my dolly for 10 bucks a yard sale. That's another story, but I love it. It is by far the best piece of equipment I have. I know I can't do much without my cameras, but if I had to pick an accessory that is golden, it would be my dolly.

I can't remember, but it was a dirt cheap tripod dolly, around $40. It works well, but is limited based on the environment. Don't get me wrong -- I've gotten great shots with it. Just that it is limited to smooth surfaces.

I would also take a look at the Rowe Cine Dolly as well. It requires some building, but it looks good. I think it's on DVXuser. I'm thinking of buying it as well, as soon as I get the money. http://www.dvxuser.com/articles/dolly/

Man that is cheap! I'm fine with assembling anything as long as its cheap, when are you getting? I would want to buy this and also maybe even the ad-on dolly like Steve for live shooting. Robert if you are getting this tell me how it goes ok, I will love to hear from your feedback!
