Hey, it's 12:03am on Dec 1st... waiting for the magic "word"...

Actually, going to bed. See you all in the morning. May the best video win.

Sean

Nick Hiltgen December 1st, 2005 01:18 AM

Last minute sign up, count me in, I mean come on there's no wall of shame right?

Jason Varner December 1st, 2005 03:54 AM

I'm In

It's 2 in the morning and I don't think I'll be able to sleep unless I accept the DV Challenge. I look forward to working with/against you all again.

Sean McHenry December 1st, 2005 07:16 AM

Since the official topic hasn't been released yet, I'm going to ask that I be allowed to enter my daughter, Kate. She has been interested since the last contest and I have some spare gear she will be borrowing to do this. If the contest gods will allow, please note I am entering, at her request, Kate McHenry as a participant.

I know the site says to sign up before the 1st so if we missed it, she'll understand. She just moved and has no internet access yet, hence me signing her up late.

Thanks folks.

Waiting for "the word".

I'm in. And I'm totally late. If there wasn't an extra weekend this would be impossible for me, but since there is, let's make this Christmas season more stressful!

Oops I must have signed up at a different thread yesterday. Anyways I would like to join the contest, It sounds fun.

Jonathan Jones December 1st, 2005 01:01 PM

$ sent....I guess I'm in.

Well, I'm guilted into it. I think I got in just under the wire because I see the theme is not yet posted. I wasn't going to sign up this time around, because I don't have the time or the $....but this forum and the DVC's have done wonders for my knowledge base and helping my own business, I need to give up a little kickback.

My wife will be a little P.O'd, but that is okay, I just spent a few hours for her by running Photoshop pranks to aide her and her office buddies who 'kidnapped' a little office statue for a prank. I photoshopped him traveling all over the world and sent anonymous photos to the office employees to get them rolling....so I can allow myself a little time for this challenge....very little...so that will be by goal.

Lucky for me there is no wall of shame this time around, and since a major part of my business is to support charities, I'm good to go.

My plan...for DVC1 , my goal was just to make an entry with some type of depth (it was too deep)
DVC 2, I worked on how to frame a good shot
DVC3, how much story content can I squeeze into the time limit

This time around, I will see what I can do on a budget of time and funds. I will try to use the cheapest stuff I have around the house, and no more than 3 hours for the whole thing - write, shoot, and edit.

I expect it to be a major bomb, but my goal is to do something with almost nothing.

So far...I'm kinda in.
-Jon

Normally once the theme is posted, no more sign ups are allowed, but seeing how it is a holiday theme.... sure, come on in!

In fact, anyone who wants to join from this point on is welcome to, which I say while rattling the charity fund box at you! ;)

Owen Bickford December 1st, 2005 08:41 PM

thanks!!! I'll be scraping some dough together tomorrow.

I'm in also. Signed-up via e-mail before the theme was posted and I figure out it would be good to have my mark posted here.

I may be mistaken, but I thought that Dylan said anyone can enter no matter when this time as it is just a charity Challenge, but I'm sure that he will reply to your post.

Personally I have no objection, the more donations the better I say.

Best of luck anyway,

Mike

Yeah! That's the spirit! ;)

Christopher Ruiz December 3rd, 2005 10:21 AM

Well, I'm in...

I have been very hesitant since the announcement of the theme.

It's just... nevermind, I'm in.

I got a brand new XL2, that's why I'm in.

I don't feel inspired right now, maybe if I hit the storyboard... run a lap... have some cereal...

To begin........

Sean McHenry December 3rd, 2005 12:09 PM

I know what you mean. In a way, this one is the hardest of the 3 I have been involved in. Spirit is actually rather limited in it's approach. If you are trying to stay away from cliche, it ain't an easy topic.

I have my script finished. I bought a Santa hat last night as the first prop. About $1.69 so far.

Next I need a beard, a blender, a stuffed squirell, 16 pairs of red spike heels in size 2, a surplus flame thrower and one of those flexible straws...

Hee hee.

Sean

Fredrik-Larsson December 3rd, 2005 12:13 PM

Sean, I am looking forward to see your contribution. Can I advise you to pick up an insurance before you go out and shoot it?

Sean McHenry December 3rd, 2005 12:19 PM

I'm not so much worried about the flame thrower but trying to convince the local army post that I really, really need it, that's going to take some doing. I just hope the ASPCA isn't listening in. They have spies everywhere. I think forcing reindeer to wear heels might be against the law but I am not sure.

Have to go shopping for a rubber chicken and a rubber president Nixon mask now.

I also have to shoot the "Making of..." also. Maybe I can edit that as my arm heals.

Sean

Fredrik-Larsson December 3rd, 2005 12:24 PM

roflmao... well... this is gonna be interesting! :-) And don't forget... now you promised to have flamethrowers and rubberchickens in your video! And you know what happen to children who lie???? Yepp, that's right! No presents for christmas!!!!!!!!!! Santa's watching you closely Sean... ;)

Christopher Ruiz December 3rd, 2005 03:41 PM

I can't do this... I can't even get past the definition...

It's a spirit...................... a spirit!

I am going to eat myself alive just getting to the core meaning of spirit.

What is the historical meaning of why distilled alcohol is called "spirits" anyway???? I'm going to look that up right now.

I got a really good idea, the problem is... well... capturing spirit.

Robert Martens December 3rd, 2005 03:54 PM

I know what you guys mean, this crap is hard! Trying not to do anything cliché, but the only idea that's come to mind so far is incredibly (albeit implicitly) violent, and in poor taste. I don't imagine murder--even its mere suggestion--is something that would be terribly welcome in a competition like this, 'specially this time of year.

Back to the drawing board, I guess. Hope things work out, Christopher, I share your pain. Good luck!

Mike Teutsch December 3rd, 2005 06:05 PM

Still plenty of time!

Christopher-Robert,

Remember, you have 8 more days and that gives you plenty of time to just think. Sometimes your idea will only come toward the end. Just have your gear ready and people if you have them.

Hang in there and try some abstract thinking. Watch TV, drive around, talk on the phone and all with the theme in your mind.

Keep your, ah, spirits up!

Mike

Christopher Ruiz December 4th, 2005 03:28 AM

I got it.

It involves flooding a bar.

I just got rights to an amazing song from a indie band in Philadelphia (thank you Mary).

A friend of mine is really good friends with an owner of a local bar, he's going to secure some shooting time for me there. I will be able to flood flood it limitly.

All major ideas brainstormed. I am going to make a complete shot list tomarrow... no script as there will be no dialogue.

Sean McHenry December 4th, 2005 01:58 PM

Don't get discouraged. It took me nearly 3 days to gel my idea. I just finished editing about 80% of it this afternoon. Taking a break now.

Scratch the flame throwers. A tank would be really cool but even black market 50s era soviet stuff is still pretty pricey. Go figure.

Finished shooting about 2am. Wathced "Audition" and went to bed. Interesting movie.

Who says murder isn't a good theme? Hey, it's open to interpretation. That leaves good taste on the front porch. All 8 reindeer buy the farm in mine.

Need rest- and Bailey's.

Sean McHenry

Christopher Ruiz December 4th, 2005 10:27 PM

Okay so I am going to scratch flooding a bar, too much time to set everything up. Instead I found a house that will let me flood it :). I got one main actor, 20 extras (including 2 kids). Need to put together a complete list of my shots still. This is going to be very effin cool.

Christopher Ruiz December 5th, 2005 08:32 AM

Okay no kids. Still lots of extras. Lots of tricks. Will this even work? I think it just might.

Sean McHenry December 7th, 2005 07:28 AM

Dylan,
How many people are in this one, not just contributors but actually signed up for the event? Just curious.

Sean
