Seriously, sad piece, kind of a downer, but beautifully filmed and edited. |
Wow. Simply wow. As everybody else has said, your cinematogrpahy and production values are excellent. Your male lead uses facial expressions well. Your superlative direction, perhaps? :-) I noticed a bit of product placement, there, old chum! Personally, in the rare time I taste vodka, there is only one: Stolichnaya! The Russians make two things well; firearms and vodka. I frequent the Apple about 4 times per year as I am a theatre junkie. Your sidewalks have permanent grooves from my brogues. How in hell did you pull off shooting on the street without onlookers harrasing you?
Great job, Mike. Good use of theme. You are one talent with whom we all need to reckon. |
I thought your production values were dead on, and you captured the reflections theme really well. Your mood was solid and consistent all the way through. I guess my main criticism is that there wasn't any hope in it. It's the kind of film that makes you want to shut the door and turn off the phone and the lights and just be depressed. I guess I like hope a lot.

hahaha, fair enough. I like hope too. Maybe it's living in a city like NYC that makes things seem more hopeless. I promise my next DVC will be more hopefull.
There was probably (reflecting) too much product placement. But i was trying to make a point of him trying to blur the memories. On a positive note, no wine was waisted and the vodka was enjoyed. So was the scotch but that didn't make the cut in the final short. There were many shots that were completely ruined by people coming up and asking what we were shooting. Some stopped right in front of the camera hoping that they would make it in the film. When they asked what it was about, I told them that it was a porno called "big man in a big city". hmmm maybe that could be used in DVC6??? |

lol Michael! Did that work? Or did it draw more attention? Best Wishes~ Bradley |
Actually it did work nicely. When I asked if they would like to be in it, they walked away quickly.

I would just like to add that I found this piece really interesting, fantastically well paced and nicely lit. Your storytellling technique is top notch and kept me intrigued until the end, which is often a problem with many shorts. An area which is often not given the time it should is audio, but your sound design works really well. Congratulations and looking forward to your next submission :)
