Ripping a DVD to final cut pro...

Hey Everyone,

I know a couple ways to do this, but I'm not sure I'm doing in the most efficient way. Also I should mention I'm not ripping anything copyrighted. Actually just some home movies.

The programs I've been using is handbrake. Can anyone make any other recommendation?

Thanks in advanced

MPEG Streamclip

Yup, Streamclip is better than Handbrake (I believe Handbrake only creates MPEG4s which are not optimal to edit in FCP) Streamclip is free but you need the MPEG Playback Component or QT Pro (I think) to run

DVxDVD is a commercial app that works pretty well

Or you could consider a pass thru option: DVD player connected to a DV Cam, Cam to the puter, capture as non-controllable device

At any rate, no matter which method you use, by the time you re-compress and go back out to DVD, be prepared for some degree of quality loss
