PAL to NTSC for DVD - 24p or 60i?

I want to convert some PAL footage (50i) to NTSC for DVD output. There is a lot of fast moving objects in this footage so it's kind of difficult to get an acceptable result.

I was thinking about :

- converting to NSTC interlaced (60i) using something like Atlantis

- converting to NSTC 24p (progressive) using MB for example to de-interlace. In that case it will look like a regular movie to the DVD player and the automatic 23.97fps->30fps conversion will occur.

Is there any advantage to deinterlace before changing the frame rate ?

Any advantage to go to NTSC 24p (instead of 60i) from PAL 50i ?

Will I get a smoother result if I go 24p (sport footage) ?

That's a difficult question. I doubt a lot of people have experience
with this. I'd suggest you do some test runs for yourself to see
what works best. My personal feeling tends to lean toward 60i
because you add things instead of substract.
