Good quality DVDs?
 

I am looking for a good success rate DVD with a fairly cheap price. I got some Memorex -R'`s last day after thanksgiving for pretty cheap and they seem OK. I am looking to buy about 200. Anyone know a good brand to hunt out for best universal success?

DVD-R blanks have settled down a lot in the last few years and the risk of dye fade has subsided I'm pleased to say. I'd always go for a brand name you recognise like Verbatim, Ritek, TDK etc, but the main thing (if you're burning 200 for the general public) is not to encode at too high a level. Make 6mbps +AC3 audio discs and you won't have any returns whatever medium you use.

Sony or TDK are my choice.

Taiyo Yuden or Verbatim are the preferred brands with the best reliability. Especially with Memorex, Sony, and other names you have to realize they buy from third parties and on a single spindle you may end up with three different brands with different reliabilities. Ritek used to have a good name, but quality problems have thrown their reputation down the drain.

Taiyo Yudens in -R and Verbatims in +R DL...

Tom....Bitrate shouldn't matter..The decoder has to be licensed to playback whatever bitrate, so long as it falls within legal boundaries of DVD structure.....
If you're getting funny results, i'd double check out the encoder you use..

Verbatim -R here. Hundreds of disks burned with zero coasters. I've never tried T-Y because I've had great luck with the Verbatim, but they've had a great reputation since I first heard of them about a decade ago.
