Dvd Ram ???
Hi,
Do you have any idea on DVD-RAM recorders & its 9.4gb media...what actually is a this DVD RAM ? I am ri8 now using DVD-R 4.7 GB stuff. Please enlighten my soul ! |
DVD-RAM is a format that is not being used much these days.
Compare it to the Iomega ZIP or JAZZ drives. Basically it is a rewritable DVD in a casing with some different features from DVD-RW and DVD+RW. Most DVD drives cannot read those discs (and you would need to first pull them out of their casing). For more information please take a close look at the What about recordable DVD section of the DVD FAQ. (it looks like those discs are 2.7 or 4.7 gb. not 9.4) |
There is a 9.4 DVD Ram disc. It's just double sided, so you have to turn it over - not much of an advantage. I have DVD ram and DVD-r capability in a TV (not computer) set top box. DVD ram's advantages are that it can record and play video at the same time (TV box), and that you save and delete files just like hard drive in the PC configuration. There are some advantages, but compatibility is not one of them!

The holy grail is DVD-R9, or dual layer DVD+/-R, slated to come out this month starting with the Sony DRU700.

Just to note that you can also delete files from a -RW or +RW
if you've made it correctly. I'm not sure whether it would reclaim the space those files used without a reformat. Perhaps +RW does this and -RW doesn't. |
