Need help with converting DV to DVD

Hey all, a friend of mine has some DV footage (PAL) that he wants to put on a DVD. He's been playing around with TMPGENC but hasn't had good results. There are lots and lots of artifacts and the only way he's been able to remove them is to deinterlace before converting - which he doesn't really want to do cause it should be interlaced for best quality. Can someone give me some hints or suggestions of what to try with TMPGENC or the name of a good piece of software that will encode DV into mpg2 for dvd distribution.

Cheers
Aaron

Mac or PC? On a Mac it's a cinch. PC is a different, and rather more complex, story.

Oops, sorry about that. He is using a PC.

TMPGEnc should be able to yield very good results. Make sure you
tell the encoder whether the source is interlaced or not! What
settings where you using? Constant bitrate? Variable bitrate (how
many passes?). What bitrate settings etc. ? I can try with my
version to see what yields good results for me (i'm not using
interlaced though).

Ok Rob, I'll ask him of all the details and post them here. If you could give it a try with that it'd be a great help. Even with a little bit of interlaced footage of a medium speed pan will shotw horrendous results.

Tell him to follow the formula presented at this website:

Thanks a heap Edward - I'll pass that link on to him
