DVD Studio Pro audio synch problem?

I'm experiencing audio sync problems. I'm using a GL2 to bring clips into iMovie and then burn a DVD using iDVD. The sound is 16-bit, and my iMac has plenty of disk space free, so I don't know what the problem is.

All I wanted to do in this case was copy a 60-minute MiniDV tape onto DVD. Queries posted to the iDVD board over at Apple are generally met with remarks such as, "What did you expect from a consumer application?"

I can appreciate that for creating something more professional, I might need more-robust software -- so I'm considering acquiring DVD Studio Pro to use with Final Cut Express HD. Does DVD SP deal with sync OK? I don't want to be told by Mac accolytes that, "Well, what did you expect from a $500 application?"

Are you sure the sync problem is with DVDSP? Because I've read
numerous reports that some Canon camera's together with iMovie
or FCP have trouble with sync. So if you watch the movie iMovie
creates, does it stay in sync?

Do a search (button upper right corner) and restrict it to this
forum (NL DV Editing on the Mac) and enter the word "sync"
(without quotes). This will get you numerous thread on sync
issues etc.

I have also heard of problems with iDVD and disk lengths of close to an hour. I've never seen it myself but apparently as you approach one hour the audio slips more. I don't know anything other than that, but I have "heard" of it. I don't know of a solution and have never seen it myself.

I also know of the audio sync problems with Canon cameras as Rob mentioned but, again, I haven't seen it personally. I have a friend who shoots an XL1s and he hasn't had problems.

So there you go. I have been completely worthless in helping solve your problem, sorry.
Maybe a few more specifics will help. Are these single long captures or many short captures edited together. Is there sync loss visible in iMovie, or just when it's burned to disk with iDVD? Have you tried it on several DVD players to see if it's a player incompatibility? Maybe we can narrow it down a little.
