Pal video to ntsc dvd
 

I've done a video with pal equipment, but I want to show it there in the United States. What is the best way to convert the 4 minute video in FCP? I tried using compressor to output an ntsc m2v, but it ended up a bit stroby (it strugled in some pan shots)

Anyway I can keep my pal 25p smoothness on ntsc?

(As you can see from my last statement, the video was shot on 25p, and the fcp sequence was set to no fields, progressive 4:3 aspect ratio cc601 pal )

i live quite close to you, in an NTSC-Country

and i got no problem to use my PAL-DVD's here in NTSC-DVD-Player to watch it on a NTSC-TV
my experience is, the DVD-Player do a much better conversion-job than any software, my PAL-Videos from germany look nice and also some PAL-Movies i bring with me look quite nice
my DVD-Player is an LG-Stereo-System actully quite rubbish nothing expensive

i dont think there should be any problem to watch your PAL-DVD's on a NTSC-System

if i am wrong please correct me, but a friend of mine got same experience

I find that the conversion built into some DVD players is OK, but:

a) these players are not common in USA
b) the conversion is not "that" good.

I sell a plugin for FCP called "Standards Conversion" that does a great job. I've done a lot of conversions from 25p to NTSC and they look really good. You can download a demo at www.nattress.com

There's a new version in the works, but it will be a free upgrade from the current version. The new version should be around in the next few days.
