Field DVD Recorder...

Hello,

I am looking into a job that would require recording straight to DVD from my camera and the DVD being sold to the public.

Some background - I have a Pioneer 330 DVD recorder and use it for this purpose, but I have put the discs in a DVD player here at home and the DVD skipped here and there.

My guess is that the audio is Mpeg-2 which I am not very fond of for compatability.

Does anybody know of a good "professional" DVD recorder with firewire and the option to use PCM or AC3 audio?

Or at least a recorder that has very good compatability.

Thanks

Sony VRD-VC30 DVDirect DVD Recorder

It's great little recorder. You can pick between 4 custom dvd backrounds, it has a 2.5 color screen that you can monitor that it's actually recording. I just noticed that www.circuitcity.com has it for $149. I paid $200 a few months ago.

It has Firewire In, Svideo and Composite inputs. You can only play dvds recorded by the vrd-vc30.

Thanks Jon.

How about this twist, does anybody know of a DVD recorder that finalizes the discs automatically as it burns?

With the Pioneer unit, to play the DVD on a different machine than the one used for recording, I have to go in the menu and finalize the disc.

For this application, I would like to press record, press stop and when the disc comes out it is ready to be sold.

Thanks for your help

Jon, that recorder looks interesting.

It looks like it uses AC3 for the audio, is this true?

Would it burn & finalize in one step?

Also, do you think would it be possible to hook up two of these to one camera using a firewire hub or distribution piece of hardware?

It would be nice to be able to have a new disc to record on as the other is finalizing.

Thanks
