Slow-mo with 60fps in 30fps timeline?
 

I often will slow down action by shooting at 720p60 and then editing in a 720p30 timeline. With FCP 7 I had to confirm my 60fps to 30fps using cinema tools to get a smooth slowing effect. Can the new FCP X use all the frames if I'm editing a 60fps source on a 30fps timeline? Or, like FCP 7 will it "drop" half the frames once it hits the timeline? (With a resulting choppy slow-motion effect if I change speed to 50% and I haven't confirmed the file before importing.)

You will still need to use Cinema Tools to conform.

I downloaded FCP X this morning and gave it a try. It appears as though you were incorrect. When I render out it's either using all the frames on a 50% slow-down (without previously conforming the clip) or it's the most "magical" frame interpolation ever. In short, slo-mo looks amazing.

I just tried 50% retiming on my 1080p50 footage without doing anything else, and to me it seems like it just retimes it normally instead of just using the 50 frames to make it 50% in 25p...

How do I conform i Cinema Tools? (I get this message: "Skipped -- The movie has temporal compression 00004.mov")

Edit: After doing a ProRes transcode in Compressor (on the ProRes-file from Clipwrap...) it works in CinemaTools.

Hey Ryan, you can select "Conform" in the retime menu. That will match your timeline frame rate.
