Re: Recommendation for an external drive

I've done the Blackmagic Disk Speed test on all sorts of drives, internal/external, even USB 3.0 sticks and the conclusion was that I was not able to edit 10 bit 4:2:2 720P on almost all of the disks I have been able to edit 1920P 4:2:0 (XDXAM EX) on flawlessly for the last couple of years...

So that test really has no practical use to me.

I guess the most demanding video I'll be working with -for the time being- are RAW files from my 5D Mark 3. They'll be transcoded to ProRes, I guess. (haven't worked with RAW yet- how does that work with FCP X?)

I guess that as long as you transcode to ProRes, the speed issue is not really a problem. But does anyone know the numbers: how fast does your disk needs te be in order to work with ProRes 4:4:4? (which, I realize, will be severely overkill in most situations anyway...)
