Motion 5: Create Animated route on a map
 

Motion 5 - is this the best forum to discuss it?

Yesterday after a fair amount of research I knuckled under and bought "Motion 5" in order to create an animated route on a map. It downloaded and installed that part went easily. Also downloaded a Motion Supplement 1.1 and that went okay, too.

Part of the research involved finding articles and video tutorials about how to create the animated route on a map. It is nice when there are brave users that go on before to discover all the pitfalls and share their discoveries about how to do something. Life can be good.

This morning I imported my map (a video of a map) and, following video instructions by Larry Jordan Larry Jordan - Motion 5: Animating a Map Track | Final Cut Pro Training & Classes and one other, I tried to create a Folder for the "Animated Path". His video said to create two folders, one for the Map, and the second for the Path. After struggling, if all else fails, read the instructions.

It appears things may have changed since Larry made his video because now only one folder is allowed. The Manual (link above) states:

Note: Previous versions of Motion allowed multiple open projects, each appearing in its own window. Motion*5 allows only one open project at a time. If you have one project open and attempt to create or open another, Motion prompts you to save, then closes the current project before opening the next project.

Question: What to do now?
Without creating a folder I did use the Bezier tool and created a path on the map. So, is that all there is to it? Is the Path in the Map file and the Map folder?

Granted, this series is a tickler to get one interested in signing up for the tutorial series, BUT it is free. There are 15 mini tutorials that in total run over an hour and cover the main aspects of Motion 5.

For anyone who might be interested in finding out what Motion 5 can do this would be an EXCELLENT overview. This is a really powerful application for artistic creating and animation. While it didn't come close to hinting that it could be used for animating the route on a map (what I bought it for), it opens up new windows of things one could use it for.

This overview is a pure goldmine for finding out what Motion can do. I give this 5 stars!
