Importing

2 Attachment(s)
Hi, Can some one please tell me why I see this sometimes , I all ways copy off my cards to a folder on the HDD, then take the card out and open FCP then import from the folder. Works 99% and is fine. But sometimes , when i go back a few days later to work on the project i get this when i open it up. so i go back to import and it all imports fine, but i still see the small camera icon on some of the clips ?? see pic.

Re: Importing

Are you cloning the entire card structure so that it looks like a camera card is mounted in the computer or just moving the video files?

Re: Importing

That's an unusual problem.

Sometimes "the devil is in the details" ....

Just noticed at the bottom of your post the following:

"HD101/G5 Mac/4gig Ram/1TB HDD/30" Cinema Display/FCP."

Probably wouldn't make any difference, but here is a question: Is the application FCP or FCPX?

Re: Importing

One distinct possibility if you're working in FCP X, is that you aren't giving the program enough time to properly import the files from your camera, cards or source drives.

X fools many, because it allows you to start an import - and the files show up and you can start editing - even while the background importing is in progress. If you quit the program before the import is complete (which can often take quite a while if you're shooting long or high-fez scenes or are using a non-native codec and X has to mathematically transcode the files) then you get this condition.

In the dashboard (the place where the timecode shows) click on the render circle and that will expose the render manager. Until ALL the work in process is done, you shouldn't close X unless you're OK with coming back later and specifically re-importing the clips that didn't make it all the way into the Library structure.

FWIW.

Thanks Bill, I would say it had not full imported.
