Video Colour Effects

I am trying to figure out how to attain the following colour effects in Final Cut Pro. If any one can help out it would be greatly appreciated. I have attached the original image as well as examples of the two effects I am trying to achieve.

Add the 3-Way CC.

Drop saturation to something like halfway.
Drag the middle color wheel in the direction of the tint you want to add.
Do the same for the highlights/right color wheel. The distance should be greater than the middle color wheel. The hue/angle can be slightly different... this tends to look better.

If you want to blow the image out (I dislike this), you can drag the highlight slider to the right and the shadow slider to the left.

The samples were produced from stills in Adobe Light Room.

Thanks Glenn.

Looks like Bleach Bypass and Sepia. Should be filters in your bin for that, at least the sepia, Joe's Filter or G2 might have the Bleach Bypass.

Or, if you have Final Cut Studio 2 you can use Color to apply those filters with the easy settings they have.

And along the same line can anyone recommend a good book for learning Color? Or is it too new? What I would like to do is leave everything Black and white except one image...like one individual in a shot of many individuals

John,
On-the last Final Cut Studio DVD in the box, the learning disc, inside that is a folder that is called "drag this to itunes" inside that are some promo videos and some training videos. Watch all 4 Color videos, after that you will have a fairly good idea of how color works. I was amazed. There is a work flow to using color, and after watching those videos, it made so much more sense to me.
